Cruises are becoming an increasingly popular holiday option, with packages today catering for all age ranges including many now openly welcoming families with children.
When asked what it is they enjoy about a cruise, most people point to the fact that no other holiday provides the opportunity to visit so many different locations on a single package. Others like the fact that starting their cruises from Southampton and other major UK cruise terminals frees them from the stresses of flying, including luggage restrictions.
The first thing that surprises many people new to cruise holidays is how both long-distance cruises and cruises around nearby European ports are catered for with equal care and attention. Most cruise companies will go out of their way to ensure that a cruise around, say, the Mediterranean, becomes as enjoyable and memorable an experience as a cruise to the United States or the Caribbean.
The second aspect of cruises that surprises many people is the opportunity for participation in so many on-board activities right throughout the day. From fitness classes to cinema; and from spa treatments to casinos, all cruise ships provide the holidaymaker with so much more than luxury transportation, becoming in fact a prestigious five star holiday activity centre.
It goes without saying of course that all meals and light snacks served aboard a cruise ship are of the highest possible standard, with the added pleasure that all on-board catering will almost always be included in the price of the cruise.
For those who are hesitant about embarking on a cruise it may be worthwhile trying a shorter mini cruise. Equally, if personal finances are an issue, it is always worth looking out for the many cruise deals that are on offer from the more established cruise companies. P&O cruises deals, for example, are renowned for offering excellent value for money.
